Communal Dreams
Sending out feelers to see if anyone else has considered another way of living, or at least a rural getaway, one that restores a sense of balance and connection with nature.
For some years now I’ve been thinking about how I’d like the rest of my life to unfold. While it is impossible to know how our lives will play out, I have derived a great amount of pleasure from pondering the possibilities I might achieve with proper planning and preparation as well as the even greater heights that can be achieved if others share my vision and want something similar for themselves and their families.
Allow me to paint a picture of my dream for you. A vast track of undeveloped land at the base of a mountain range stretches before you. At the flat grassy base of the wooded hills you can see gardens, flowing water, animals, both wild and domesticated, and ponds teaming with life. A large communal residential and recreational area sits in the foreground while smaller single family residences dot the landscape in the distance. All the structures in sight are designed with energy/resource production and efficiency built into its architecture. The capture of solar, rain and wind resources is evident in the design of the landscape and architecture of the structures.
The recreational area has games and sports, but also spa amenities like sauna and cold plunge tanks. A structure designed for the all manner of creative pursuits, from a wood shop at one end to a music studio at the other, sits to one side of the recreational area. Earthship style homes can be seen as you look further up the slope and wind turbines sitting at the highest points.
I dream of a place where people can bring their aging parents to live out the rest of their lives in a real community that supports their needs. Where people recovering from trauma and addiction can come to heal and begin to grow again. Where people can come together to get inspired to make their own art, or perhaps work on a project with others. Where people can come to learn about nature and sustainability, to play and build relationships with others and hopefully to see the value in all of the things being done and brought together in this place.
Sounds pretty decent, right? It will take years of effort and way more money than I currently have available, but I’m hoping that I’m able to find enough people who see the value in this vision to make a proper go of it. I have a few close friends and relatives interested already, but if you are serious about exploring a new way of living, or potentially just want a rural getaway to call a second home/rental property, then shoot me a message! If I get a decent amount of responses I’ll create a Chat so we share ideas in a more open format.
I’ll be back next week with more art things, thanks so much for reading and have a lovely weekend folks!!

Sounds like Altadena, at least in spirit. Yes to this idea, we need more intergenerational community.
